After taking a few extra days rest in Idaho it's time to head along. South from Twin Falls, Idaho takes us toward Nevada. Idaho was mainly big hills and desert regions. We can see that's changing as we get further south.
This is definitely an impressive sight. How do we get through that?
This is Wells, the first town we came to in Nevada. What a great view! Those are the Ruby Mountains.
This is our view at our campsite in Winnemucca, Nevada. I always thought that northern Nevada would be just a desert wasteland. The town is completely surrounded by mountains like these. One of the best mountain views we've seen in our travels.
This is the view behind us.
This is the view from the front, like I said, all around us.
We went for a drive around town to see what Winnemucca is all about. Their special place in history? In 1900 this was a bank and Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and the Wild Bunch robbed it. Shortly after, they went to Bolivia where they were killed in a shootout with the army. Or were they? Do any research and you'll find dozens of different theories, but I'll stick with the accepted story. There's lots of cowboy history here. We also came across an actual operating brothel. Not that I'm sure what it is but it set Grammie giggling. She wouldn't let me take any pictures though. Not even on the outside. We had lunch at one of the local casinos; I had steak and eggs for $5.00. Every town seems to have its own casino. Must be Nevada.
Time to get moving again. Lots of wide open spaces and little traffic. It makes for a relaxing drive.
After nothing but tumbleweeds and dirt for miles we had to take a picture of these trees.
Now we're just north of Reno Nevada. Parking at a casino. They usually have really good sites at the lower end of the price scale so for us retired folk, that's good. Bordertown Casino and RV Park. Went to the casino for supper. They gave us free drink coupons as well as meal discounts and we used them. We even managed to avoid temptation and not gamble. Aren't we good! Tomorrow, we'll go exploring.
